Auto-Graphics’ SHAREit™ Selected Again by State Library of Kansas
The twenty-five year partnership of offering Auto-Graphics’ resource sharing solution to Kansas libraries continues
ONTARIO, Calif. — December 8, 2014 — Auto-Graphics, Inc., a leading provider of tools, technologies and software developed to power libraries, and the State Library of Kansas announce the selection of Auto-Graphics’ SHAREit™, as the statewide resource sharing system.
After a competitive bid process featuring resource sharing, interlibrary loan and ILS vendors, the State Library of Kansas chose Auto-Graphics to provide their SHAREit resource sharing platform across the state. The most recent version of SHAREit has a new discovery interface, featuring the AGent CLUSTERit™ display which groups and displays similar items from different resources for the user.
Auto-Graphics has adapted the latest software, database, and industry standards to provide the state of Kansas with the most current and leading edge platform available including:
- Statewide hybrid online catalog for over one hundred Z39.50 targets and a physical union database of almost 2.5 million records which are dynamically merged into one visible database – CLUSTERit
- Traditional mediated and unmediated patron-initiated ILL requests
- Separate and unique staff and patron discovery layers
Jeff Hixon, Director, Statewide Services at the State Library of Kansas, said the following about the relationship between Auto-Graphics and Kansas. “Kansans and Kansas librarians have had a “share it” attitude for decades. The Kansas Library Catalog, on the Auto-Graphics platform, has facilitated millions of material loans and the delivery of millions of online research items. We look forward to utilizing the more robust features in SHAREit (in particular the CLUSTERit display) to streamline and enhance resource sharing all across our state.”
Auto-Graphics’ has a long history of serving the Kansas library community and are pleased to continue to provide cost effective and efficient solutions to the libraries in the state. Auto-Graphics and SHAREit, specifically, are well positioned to offer the state of Kansas and its many diverse public libraries, a leading position within the growing field of statewide resource sharing.
SHAREit provides access to both the union database and virtual OPAC content. This provides a more effective use of local staff resources leading to a better discovery experience for patrons and staff alike. Combined with the ability to search and cluster e-content data and fee based resources, SHAREit provides a flexible platform for every situation. Along with the core design the system fully integrates with a local ILS throughout the state for patron validation using SIP2, LDAP, and NCIP. The use of traditional ISO based resource sharing, is not enough today, so Auto-Graphics is pioneering the use of NCIP ILL standards. This can save the ILL staff up to 60% of the work necessary in traditional resource sharing environments. To address the ever evolving technology platforms used by patrons, and to address the need to provide a more mobile staff experience; SHAREit is fully integrated with the new mobile and ultra mobile platforms.
“The state of Kansas is a leader in advancing patron services through e-content and e-devices. SHAREit provides a solid foundation for future e-movements beneficial to Kansas residents,” said Albert Flores, Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “Our newest version of SHAREit will undeniably benefit patrons for discovering and accessing new content.”
